Knowing how Yong-Gi Cho, born in a Buddhist family, became a Christian and how he overcame the difficulties of opening up a church, can provide an important key to understand his theology. The characteristics of every stage in the early history of Yoido Full Gospel Church, show how he guided the sheep, those who were in poverty and suffering, towards the hopeful life with prayer and pastoral zeal.

The doctrine and the theology of Yong-Gi Cho have common aspects with the Assemblies of God to which he belongs, but there are also Cho’s unique and distinctive aspects. Therefore, there coexist positive and negative evaluation about this theology. In this section we will see the Threefold Blessing and the Divine healing, the theology of the reign of God and the ecclesiology according to Yong-Gi Cho’s teaching. And we will see also the viewpoints of other theologians about each topic. In particular, the reign of God part will be presented according to how the Catholic Church understands it. In the conclusion, if the topic is shared in common between the Catholic Church and Young-gi Cho, we will also see the Catholic Church’s theology.

The Church growth of Yoido Full Gospel Church is basically the fruit of Yong-Gi Cho’s preaching, Cell Group System, Fourth dimension theory, and Pentecostal worship style. Therefore, in order to observe the pastoral area of Yong-Gi Cho, we will first look at the Fourth dimension theory, and then the preaching method and the Cell Group System. For the sermon, presenting the way suggested by Yong-Gi Cho and by Pope Francis will be observed the common aspect and the unique character of protestant and the Catholic Church. Will be presented also the Cell Group System, Guyuk Yebe (Cell group worship) of Yoido Full Gospel Church, and the Small Community of Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul will also be presented. This study is to reflect the pastoral renewal and the way of spiritual growth of the faithful.

Another difficulty for the Catholic Church is the sharp decline in the number of young people attending church. It is very common for very few young people to attend youth Mass. Some years ago, when I was researching Catholic Mass and Protestant worship, I attended a Sunday service for Protestant youth. This Protestant church was full of young people. At the same time, in the same city(Seoul), the Catholic Church had very few young people, but this Protestant Church was full of them. There was clearly a spiritual thirst in them. I was very moved to see them listening to the sermon, praising and praying with all their hearts. I think this is the difference in pastoral methods. Just as the paradigms of pastoral methods of traditional churches and Cell churches are different, there is an urgent need to change the paradigm of youth ministry today and in the future.
